Bambus has had three names. The restaurant opened in the autumn of 1995 as «Mango House», soon became «China House», and took the name Bambus in October 1996 — the sequence is still on file at the Register of Business Enterprises. Gong Xue Hu ran it for nearly thirty years before putting it up for sale in 2024. In 2014 Bambus was the most profitable restaurant in Førde, Firda reported, with turnover close to ten million.

The menu is built as a system rather than a list. You choose a sauce first — Shanghai Soya, Thai curry, Chinese pepper sauce, Sichuan, BBQ, bean chilli or Kong Bao — and then what it is served with: beef, pork, chicken, lamb, duck, prawns or vegetable wok. The same structure carries over to the takeaway menu, which has its own lower prices.

One practical note: the business register gives the address as Storehagen 9, while the restaurant's own website says Hafstadvegen 26. Both most likely point at the same building in the Alti centre, but we have not had that confirmed.
